Police blotter: Arrests for mushrooms

ASHEVILLE – Two Buncombe County men were arrested Monday after sheriff's deputies said they had 29 grams of psilocybin, or hallucinogenic mushrooms, in their possession.
Deputies charged Mark Justin Daly, 19, of Oakhurst Road in Arden, and Daniel Russell Wheeler, 18, of Curtis Miles Road in Alexander, with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver it.
Wheeler also was charged with maintaining a vehicle for drugs. He was held in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.

Thats a lot of money 4 just over an oz of mushrooms. Does any1 know of any similar arrests? what sort of fine/penalty will the average arrest for possession or manufacturing psilocybin normally get?
(any1 know legal details 4 Australia specifically?)

thats rediculous, i know a guy who got a 12,500$ bond for 4 oz of cocaine.

29 grams is a perfectly normal amount for a person to have for personal consumption. i wonder how they figured on charging them with possession w/ intent.

Yeah, that could easily be only 6 doses. A gram of weed will get more than 6 people high, yet you would never get intent to distribute (I hope). I realize one is far more demonized by our society, though.

Some times I am happy to live in the redneck state where I am at. Personally, I have no drug convictions...and our state has this "get out of jail free" type program for your first conviction.
Really, with a good lawyer (which requires money, and i disagree with the way the system works...but my wife is in law school to be a criminal defense attorney, so i need lawyers to make money lol) unless you have a major distributing ring there is very little likelyhood that you will end up serving jail time for mushrooms. They really are an "off the radar" type drug. But you have to play it smart, and be ready to put up some big bucks to get off. Money always buys freedom in this country though.
