Men plead guilty in Ecstasy ring July 6, 2005 - dailyherald.com
A Las Vegas man prosecutors say was the ringleader of a suburban Ecstasy ring pleaded guilty Tuesday to distributing 65,000 tablets of the drug over the course of two years.
David Pattalio, 33, who is currently living in Belvidere, joined five other defendants in pleading guilty. He will be sentenced in October, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica Bickert. A seventh defendant, Andrew Moore, 39, of Hanover Park, has pleaded innocent.
According to documents filed by prosecutors, David Pattalio and Douglas Parker, 33, of West Chicago would arrange to receive the pills from a co-conspirator, Cecil Russell of Canada, who would mail them from Spain or the Netherlands.
David Pattalio and Parker would pay Russell $5 a pill and then resell them for $20 to $30 each at local bars and strip clubs such as Crobar, Glow, Transit and Crazy Horse, according to court documents.
The two would either accept delivery of the pills themselves at various suburban mailbox services or would have other co-conspirators accept the pills. Locations included Schaumburg, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Bensenville, Marengo and Chicago.
One defendant, Donald French, 42, of Schaumburg would receive packages from Russell and give them to Moore in exchange for free Ecstasy pills for his personal use, French’s plea agreement said. Another defendant, Brian Ballard, 32, of Bloomingdale would accept the packages at work before turning them over to the ring. Ballard was sentenced to 25 months in prison and a $10,000 fine in January.
Dominic Pattalio, 34, of Hampshire pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to distribute because he transported cash from the sales for his brother, David, and at two points saw some of the drugs in question.
Another defendant, Anthony Demonte, 31, of Chicago pleaded guilty to possessing 312 grams of the pills.
