GUILDERLAND - A father-and-son duo was arrested over the weekend for allegedly running a $150,000 hallucinogenic drug-growing operation throughout the Capital District.

The bust, which was the first of its kind in this area, was the result of a two-month joint investigation by the Albany County Sheriff's Department and Guild- erland and Glenville police departments.
Authorities executed a search warrant Friday at the 2304 Brandywine Parkway home of 52-year-old Christopher R. Healy in Guilderland.
Healy, a collector with the state Department of Taxation and Finance and a trained permaculture designer and teacher with 30 years of experience in environmentalism, was allegedly using his bedrooms to grow hallucinogenic mushrooms and peyote cactus, used to make mescaline.
Investigators allegedly found several pounds of harvested mushrooms, hundreds of bell jars containing the illegal fungi in different cycles of growth, marijuana, hay scales, peyote cactus, grow lights, drying racks, a pressure cooker and chemicals.
Healy was charged with second-, fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
Later that day, authorities executed another search warrant at the 105 Snakehill Road home of Healy's 25-year-old son Yana and his roommate Denis E. Hudson in Glenville.
There, investigators allegedly found another mushroom-growing operation that was triple the size of the one found in Guilderland, as well as a marijuana stand hidden above the garage that utilized grow lights on pulleys with timers.
Approximately 55 plants were seized, along with 2,000 bell jars containing mushrooms, bomb-making materials, fireworks, several long guns, grow lamp generators, heaters, drying racks and several chemicals, including chloroform.
The younger Healy and his roommate were charged with second- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
Authorities, who said that mushroom growing is usually done on the West Coast and shipped east, claimed that the trio was selling the drug for about $2,000 a pound.
All three were remanded to the county jail without bail, and more charges are expected to be levied.

Personal or not growing that much is asking to get busted
