looks like a giant puffball to me. If the inside is a marshmallow-like texture and is white it should be safe eats. Wait for someone else to confirm...

From Arora's Mushrooms Demystified it looks like Calvatia bovista although Index Fungorum has a different name that cannot be it. You can look here and see if you recognize it.

I want to thank you all for replying, it was a puffball/Calvatia Bovlista. I didn't know puffballs were a soft solid before turning into dust/spores!!! Thanx

I'm more familiar with them as Calvatia cyathiformis; they're a pretty good but bland eat. My best luck with them has been to slice and sautee them til brown for a 'shroom French toast.' Otherwise they can be used much like tofu...though I've been tempted to batter-dip and deep-fry them.
