Hey weiliiiiiii, was that stump a Pinus species? Sparassis crispa is a parasite of pines, I think thats what you have! Nice find inski...

i couldn't tell it was so far gone but it was in an area that has mostly pine trees, needles all over the ground. I want too eat it ive read it is a choice edible, it smells delicious.

Cool thanx dude its the only one in my field guide that fits the description, this is only sum of it i had too cut the part with dirt off it was alot bigger.

Yep, that's sparassis crispa, as inski already confirmed. This is actually a small specimen (or a piece thereof), they are usually (much) bigger. This could be a young specimen of course. I haven't tasted any, but they sure smell nice. They apparently take a bit time to clean properly due to the structure, though.

yeah dude i had too remove sum of it cuz it had wood inside it, it had little pieces of wood here and there inside it as if it were eating the wood which it probably was. It was soooo much bigger i just kept the best/cleanest part too eat.

I found one today. Things are so full of dirt and bugs (not nasty maggots or anything though), didn't seem worth bringing home. Unless they are really fucking tasty.

They are one of my favorite edibles.Very good if you can find some relatively clean ones.You want them to still be white.

Mine was very white when i found it the pic i posted was after washing it, it got kinda tannish looking.

You want to fry them up right away after you wash them.A day or two in the fridge and they start to get bitter tasting. I don't see those around until fall up here.
