Is this Russula emetica?

Habitat: Pine forest(pulpwood land so there are only pines)at base of tree in needle litter Gills: white, free, no pores visible, hang down slightly past the edge of the cap Stem: Approx. 3.5 inches in length, diameter close to one inch, white with pink shading, firm, solid with spongy middle, very thick and sturdy
Cap: Diameter 4-4.5 inches, dark red, smooth but not slimy, slightly concave
No spore print - see underside of cap photo
Bruising: No bruising.
Other information: Fishy smelling - like a clam left to dry in the sun

I doubt that is truly emetica, a species that so far as I'm aware doesn't have the reddish flush on the stem. Now, I have no idea what it actually is. Russula are tough -- I think it might be a reddish one

Some sort of russula, but definitely not r.emetica. I suspect this could be r. rhodopus.

I found some of those yesterday, but they were so mushy from all the rain we have had I left em behind.

I may have to change my guess to R. xerampelina, based on the crustacean-y smell of this one.

Russula sure are pretty. 
I'm no expert with them, but maybe sp. silvicola? I'm really not sure about the redness of the stem, I haven't seen anything like that in my area before.

R. xerampelina I agree with also.. they are a bit out of season, but I just saw some two days ago there may be late bloomers possibly due to a warmer and wetter than usual season. According to the Audubon guide edibility is good.
