ID request (Gymnopilus?)

My friend found these, he is adamant they are Gymnopilus. He says he thinks they are Gymnopilus luteofolius, but I am quite skeptical. IDing mushrooms like these is definitely not my strong suit so hopefully you can help us out.

Habitat: Growing straight out of rotting wood.
Gills: Yellow colored, adnate to subdecurrent.
Stem: Whitish to yellow, same thickness throughout, maybe 1 cm thick?.
Cap: Yellow and Orange, not appearing hygrophanous, about 2 inches in diameter.
Spore print color: Rusty orange-brown.
Bruising: No color change was observed, although I honestly did not look for it.
Location: Texas
Other notes: Veil is present on some, not present on others. No specific smell. My friend did a quick small taste test on his own and then spat it out, he said it tasted bitter.
Thanks.

They are probably Gymnopilus luteus. They are certainly not G. luteofolius which have purplish or reddish tones.

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan
