hello friends, heres what ive been up to this year...
strangely ive only found 1 cope this year. Been a year of the cubes.
Im off to east texas tommorow to some area some of yall might know as a cube producer

get those things out of that plastic bag dude itll rot them quicker make them oxidize faster and that means lower potency, great finds though that a massive cube in the second pic

well when youre in buttfuck, texas and you have a fuckload of shrooms to pick and no container, shopping bags work best. And its not really an issue for a couple hours. They still get oxygen in an open topped plastic bag.

Daaamn dude nice finds, that one is massive.. It would make a killer clone for cultivation!
You should rename your thread to "Official 2008 Gulf Coast finds thread" or something, and ill post mine in here too  if not whatever
I plan on getting back out there, i hope i can find my first Cope some giant cubes like yours would be nice too. I bet my aunts field, which is about an hour away from Austin has some killer mushrooms growing on it, its too bad its 3 hours away from Houston....
It was the first time i found Gyms, and the first time i found a (semi) Choice edible. I need to find a Texas Mushroom guide, i already have Mushrooms Demystified but i think a narrowed down guide for Texas would be better.
Psilocybe cubensis, they were mostly deformed and dryish.. you can see the cube is almost as big as my hand

Wow man nice pics. Im down for making this the gulf coast thread, I guess not ttoo many gulf coast hunters here this year huh? Well those edibles look great man. I found a really nice agaricus with that big shopping bag. I saw a lot of em (as well as green gills) but i only took 1 really choice looking button. IT was delicious in some pasta.

There are a few gulf coast people kicking around, the season is kinda just starting for us texans with all the new rain.
I went out and found a huge log with probably 7-10 gyms and i found more of those angel wings ill post picture when my camera battery is charged!
I hope i can find some gyms thats i have a 100% ID on, so i can try them out... I also want to find some more edibles.. This is my first year edible hunting! (unless you include Lactarius Indigo which isnt a choice edible, but ide like to find again to make green eggs with)

i went on my first shroom hunt ever tonight out in mississippi. heres what we found. it wasnt really a lot but we were excited as fuck anyway. can anyone ID the big ones or maybe the others even though i dont have good pics of the others....
so is there any magic in these babies?
we found all of them in cow fields. the big ones were growing directly on old cow shit and the smaller ones were just in the grass. the big ones were also that color when we picked them so i dunno if theyre just old and nasty now or what....so if any of you experienced people know what they are id appreciate it. thx

umm learn to use your camera first, the mushrooms in the background show up crystal clear so it shows your using your camera wrong..
look for the micro/macro/close up mode it should be a flower symbol
the small ones in the grass arent cubes and they arent psychoactive
The bigger ones COULD be cubes but they are in bad condition and im not seeing a veil (maybe washed off) it looks like bluing but i dont know
get a knife and cut your stems it should go from a fleshy yellowish color to blue in a few minutes
 
if that happens they are cubes.
They look oldish so they will probably have bugs in them
Get back to me on the bluing ok?

sorry about that.
i pulled the stems away from the caps almost an hour ago and now theyre in the process of drying but theyre not blue. theyre still white just like when i pulled them apart.

At least spore print them.... You didnt keep the stems at all? I would NOT eat those until you figure out if they blue... you dont want to be peeing out of your butt and throwing up at the same time
Ive found cubes that look similar, but i was also able to ID them from experience, and by checking for bruising/veil/ and spore print...
if you cant find REAL bluing dont eat them. please
on a side note, with REAL psilocybe cubensis mushrooms the stems are PERFECTLY active i think reports have shown stems and caps are about the same potency but the caps are only a little more potent

no i kept the stems but its been a few hours and i couldnt find bluing anywhere so i ended up throwing them out. im not about to risk dying or like you said.....peeing out of my ass for a trip. ill just go again some other time. thx for ur help 
any one else on here in the southeast louisiana area? or had any luck around there? help a brotha out! im dyin for my first trip

The smaller big one looks like it could be a cube more so than the others, but the others COULD be cubes...
You should check that same field out after more rain, or check other locations on the field... if you have to cut the stem in half (like my picture above) on the field then do it, it should turn green/blue like mine in 1 to 60 seconds.

Here are the new ones found.. i even found some yellow ones, but the key says they can be yellowish when young... They SEEM to key out to Gymnopilus sapineus, has anyone else found similar ones? They might not even be gyms but they fit the key...
I don't plan on eating them... They dont bruise blue either

Finally, a GulfCoast thread. I'm in NW FL. Not much to see here, its been raining everyday for almost 3 weeks now. This might be the first sunny day, so I'm hoping for the best.
Wowitch, those are gorgeously golden. Makes a chill go down my back looking at them, imagining the moisture and earthy smell, followed by that unmistakable flavor. Christ, man. A year is far too long to wait. I have to try the out of season methods.
So, I'm in the loop now folks, and the GulfCoast STILL pwns. (as far as cubes, anyway).

I got some cubes last weekend out at my mom's place. Probably about 20 small to medium sized.
Not any really big ones, but I think I missed a bunch of them, because there were dry ones everywhere too.
no copes, though.
