I found these mushrooms im my back yard, they where growing under some old leaves and weeds. the soil was still moist when i pulled them up, but there was alot of heat so there was some damage to them as you can see in the photos. also the direct and intense sun light might have browned & dried them a bit so keep that in mind.
altitude is close to sea level, in south sacramento ca. area, its been hot near 100s no humidity.
gills where not attached but close, ranging in color from white/gray to dark brown. spore color was dark but i didnt get a good print before they dried up so i cant say for sure what color it was.
stem was on average 2 inches long maybe less, hollow, thin, close to pen sized in diameter or a little smaller. when scratched/handled turned a slight brownish/yellowish color.
cap is brown, slightly coarse texture, from conical to spherical in shape even one close to convex but not quite concave about 1 inch in diameter at its largest.
finally mushroom smelled like a regular mushroom, after drying they got a slightly funkier smell.
