SA/Adelaide Season 2007

Went out to the Adelaide hills and found 5 pins in an area with nearly 150mm rain. Some places looked like people have been to them already, but the rain only started on Thursday so there hasnt been that much time for fruiting. Here are the pics:
Copper Caps:

Quite a few inactives around too, saw a few Stropharia Aurantiaca and some type of psathyrella, heres a shot of a cluster of psathyrella;

Interesting that you find the same indicator species for your native wood-loving Psilocybe in Australia as we do in the PNW in the US.
I frequently find Psathyrella gracilis and Stropharia aurantiaca, as well as Tubaria furfuracea and a few others, when the Ps. cyanescens are out.
Do you find Tubaria while hunting??

Yeah, they aren't that common in landscaped beds though. At a 'active' spot in a pine forest i remember seeing quite a few fruitings of tubarias, and in the pine forests also a fair amount of galerinas. But both arent all that common in woodchips.

Odd! Here, woodchips are their favourite habit!

It might be hard to see, but under those leaves are a lot of woodchips!

I probably shouldnt have said there not common in chipped beds.
Im not claiming pine is better here, ive just seen more in a logged and replanted pine forest where most huntings done. Keeping in mind the ground is liberally littered with shredded pine. Subs are not that abundant in the suburbs here, thats why im not in the suburbs hunting that much.

For the past week i've been checking local beds and found tonnes of stropharia but no actives, but i have a question about Subs (Subaeruginosa):
Is the reason people find them in pine forests because they like the pine splinters and chips from felled/damaged trees? Or is it the decomposing pine needles? - ie: Is it a total waste of time to be looking under pine trees that are piled up with a carpet of needles like you might for amanita muscaria?

undergrounder, its usually pine branches, twigs and chipped debris along with rank grasses. A few of the shots in the first two pages of my gallery are from pine, you can get an idea of the habitat from them.
Also if your seeing masses of stopharia your looking in the right areas, subs should fruit soon in some of those places.

Thanks ive been seeing a fair bit of stropharia, i might just return to some of those beds when it gets colder.
I see what you mean about the habitat, i won't bother with the big thick mats of pine needles under Casuarinas and Radiata pines from now on (like the A.Muscaria pic in my gallery)

Wow did that rain do nicely, pity its not all that damp underfoot still, but with the follow up rain on the way, should make for an awesome kickstart to the season.
But.
Just bring on this cold weather already, mt craws about the only spot thats getting really cool nights, don't think we have even had a frost yet. Cannae wait to get out and take some pics.

Still only one place fruiting and less than 10 subs in total as well, only picked one. Hopefully next week has some significant rainfall and temp drops. Would be interested to here if anyone else has had any luck, though i doubt theres much out.

I feel a cold snap coming on, feel it in my bones, and still plenty moist. Gonna be a good weekend for bushwalking.

Always a good weekend for bushwalking - season has hardly got off the ground out my way though...

Yeah, I went for a quick look around at some areas this arvo, weren't barely any fly agarics around, and usually there is a heap of them before subs start coming out, also some species of gyms are usually more advanced than what they were out there today. Spot still looked a bit dry too.
