Hey guys I found some mushrooms today in the SE suburbs, now I DONT have pics and Im sorry, I have a digicam without a USB cable I know stupid... But they have orangey tops, with ORANGE STAINS on the stems and dark brownish gills. I have a feeling theyre wrong, because the stems are ORANGEY not BLUE but I thought Id ask anyway. Poisonous? I assume so, just wanted to check anyway.
Thanks and sorry for a shitty first post.

If you can't be 100% certain on the ID, don't eat them. You haven't provided enough info for a proper ID, so the only answers anyone can give is "probably not, don't risk it".
Check the sticky named "Sample ID Request" for an example.

no way to tell. do a proper ID request.
Even without pics, you could provide enough info to narrow it down to a few possibilities. Without any info other than "they're orange and have brown gills" there's not much anyone is going to be able to do for you.
I wouldn't eat them based on your lacking description anyway... I assume all mushrooms are poisonous until proven innocent.

Well thank you for your help, I'll just throw them away as I can't find a proper way to ID without a digicam. Thanks again, goodluck on your hunts.

in this forum, near the top of the list of posts, is a thread called "Sample ID request"
Read that, do what it says, then you might get an idea of what it might be.

Sounds similar to Stropharia Aurantiaca. I say this because i know you're in Melbourne and looking in habitats where they would grow. Chuck them out.

II. Accurate mushroom descriptions
It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.
A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable, but not required. Along with the pictures YOU ARE REQUIRED to provide the following data:
* Habitat (where [woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude] and what [soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?)] does it grow on) * Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc) * Characteristics of the stem (length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc) * Characteristics of the cap (diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc) * Spore print color (very important!) * Color that the mushroom bruises * Scent of the mushroom * Anything else you might find important
For a template ID request please see this thread.
For more detailed guidelines for describing your finds, please view this document.
For an explanation of mycological terms please refer to this document .
