First hunt, ID Help Please
    #7074562 - 06/21/07 10:28 AM (1 year, 4 months ago)

Hey guys. Me and a friend of mine went on our first actual mushroom hunt about a week ago, and we finally got the pictures rolling.

Habitat: Growing in the ground, underneath a pine tree with heavy fertilized soil.

Gills: Dark brown, with faint white streaks.

Stem: An off white, hollow, fragile.

Cap: Brown/redish in the center, light brown towards the edges. Rather smooth. White marks, possibly from animals/bug encounters, ripping on the edges,

Bruising: No noticeable color change.

Location: North Eastern USA.

We're still waiting on the spore print. Also, there are more species but I'm still awaiting for more info. Thanks in advance:thumbup:

those white lines are allong the edge of the gill plates, no? those are a layer of cheilocystidia [s type of sterile, or non spore producing cell] which remain pale where the rest of the gill face produces basidia [spore producing cells]and becomes encrusted with said spores.

your find looks to be an Agaricus though it could alternately be a species of Stropharia.

It is far better to seperate field collections in the field than in the hospital. keep them sorted.
