Cacti soil

Hey,
Do Trichocereus cacti like alkaline or acidic soil? I tried finding the answer but kept being fed conflicting information.
I am thinking about making a raised cacti garden and using some highly alkaline soil (full of wood ash from a bonfire) as a buffer layer to get the top soil off the ground (for drainage). Would using alkaline soil be a bad idea?
Cheers!!!

That is what i have read as the smart thing to do. personally I have been using a standard succulent potting mix with a small amount of coarse sharp loam sand.
has worked well for me.
as long as you have well draining soil and feed with a low nitrogen liquid fertilizer throughout summer you should do fine.
as for the actual ph im not sure. I just rely on the pre packed mix that i buy and mix with sand.
happy growing
