 I've been too lazy but...

Could I get a harvest going if I planted my Poppy seeds now? I meant to do all this in March but I've seriously been slackin, now I have the time but it may be too hot for them to get going I'm guessing.
So should I try planting some, I have a lot of seeds to work with so I'm not really concerned on losing any but would it be worth it?
I live in Zone 8b. Any info/opinions from you Poppy experts would be awesome, thanks!

im in zone 9, all mine died ; its too hot

well I tried couple weeks ago and no luck and I'm in zone 4 about not saying it won't work definitely put them in the fridge(I didn't do this I shoulda though) before planting if you're gonna try, maybe try starting them under fluorescents indoors too(in those peat pellets they don't like being transplanted very sensitive roots) if you have AC.

I also live in a zone 8 climate and I'd say to wait until fall to plant. If you plant in the fall, they will grow out to a nice lettuce size and then just about go dormant for winter. In the spring they'll start putting out flowers and you can already have your next batch started in late winter too.
On the other hand, poppy seeds are so prolific that you could plant some now, plant some in the fall, and plant some in the late winter/spring and see what happens.

Wait till fall to plant. I had some poppies getting to a nice size a couple months ago, that was before it got too hot and they all burst into flames.

if u have a lot of seeds, feel free to plant some, ive had late-season crops come through surprisingly, having sprouted right after the march ones were done.
also theres two kinds of poppies, "indian" poppies, and well, regular poppies.
indian poppies (natives) like papaver setigerum, have a shorter maturing period and its possible to get 3-5 crops of these in a season, whereas somniferums u may only get 1 or 2 crops.
the drawback to setigerum is it only contains morphine and trace amounts of thebaine and a few other trace alkaloids, where as somniferum produces 50+ alks. still makes a damn good tea......where legal.
