 In-vitro with PF tek

So a friend was thinking of doing 10-20 bags, since they are pretty care-free, cheap, and easy.
He doesn't have a pressure cooker though. I've done two searches for him, one tek says that "even PF cakes work", and the other says all colonized pints, half pints etc. work equally well.
Would using the PF tek lead to noticably less weight using in-vitro bags than something else?
Also, would keeping the bags in a big rubbermaid container restrict airflow too much? Would it be necessary to drill holes in the side (or maybe just the back, so it looks less suspicious in a closet), should it be opened and fanned a few times a day, or would it be fine just inside?
Edit: I just realized the amount of jars that 10-20 bags would take, using the 5 pints combined with 5 lbs of hpoo spawn. Maybe bags aren't the best idea for my friend. Is there anything else thats pretty simple and works perfectly without a pressure cooker? Or is there a way to use bigger jars? Where can I find cheap jars?
