 ok i got this sorta made up idea im putting in action....

ok im new to this and probably arent doing this right but its kinda working lemme tell you my story...
i started a jar didnt sterilize like i should have but its working... sorta.. have some cottony white growing was two patches but one patch seemed to have died off but i have this one patch and its been like a week and no increase in size so decided to make a casing out of it well i built a terrarium kinda outa onea my snake cages sterilized it and stuff now Im wondering is this gonna work i can take a picture of it better that i can explain it so if yall want, um its B+ out of syringes like i said didnt sterilized the best but this terrarium thing Im thinking might work its got wet vermiculite in the bottom about a half inch to an inch think the contents of my jar (cooked brown rice, spores) um-mm losing my train of thought, oh dry vermiculite on the top of the contents , it gets air to it but i have a drip shield at an angle in it and a heat pad from my snakes on the bottom (smallest one i could find not being used) um ill attach a picture if anyone wants just plz respond and gimme some feed back
sorry if i sound like and idiot to this Im still new bear with me till i learn some more lol

If it just died off it was probably bacterial contaminated. Yes it will work using that terrarium. I mean its too late to change it now, but I would not use vermiculite on the bottom it just gives contaminates another source to feed on. If you haven't done it yet don't use verm on the bottom, and if you do make sure its dry and sterilize it. The top needs to be wet and you need to sterilize it. You can sterilize both of them with the oven. I would use a 50/50 mix for the top. Either 50 verm and 50 coir(sold at pet stores in the reptile section for bedding), or 50 verm and 50 peat moss sold at lowes and home depot.

Are you using a pressure cooker? I think as you keep going how easily contaminates can get in jars. You may have messed up somewhere along the way.
1.)Sterilize cakes in a pressure cooker, but for cakes a pot will work fine. For whole grains you'll have to use a pressure cooker.
2.)Spray down a small bathroom with a clorox diluted water mixture or a Lysol spray I personally favor Lysol. Spray everything from the toilet to the area you are inoculating at to the paper towel holder.
3.)Let room sit for 5 minutes then move in to inoculate.
4.)Flame needle tip before you inoculate the first jar, and flame the tip between every jar.

kinda umm dont have a pressure cooker atm but am working on getting one umm i did the inoculation in my room cleaned the whole area being used didnt flame the need tip didint know i should do that...
but this next time around ima try and do it alllllll right lol but umm i sterilized the jar with rubbing alcohol and peroxide but yea

i watched a 1 hour video tonight about shroom growing that helped alot prolly gunna watch it again lol and try and do this right once i ahve a pressure cooker

Thats probably where you went wrong. Sterilize the needle tip with a flame until red, and then inoculate your first jar. Then flame the needle tip between each jar. Then flame the needle tip before you place the cap back on. That syringe you have now may be bad. Since you have 3 1/2 I would just throw it out. You could end up with another set of jars like these.
Did you sterilize your jars at least in a pot for 60-90 minutes?

Yea you those cakes are done. You HAVE to at least sterilize in a pot with about 1-2 inches of water and use some other jar lids or something to keep them off of the bottom and keep the top on and boil it up for about 90 minutes. You needed to read some more before attempting this, but you are on the right track now. I would throw that syringe out or you will very likely end up with another set of jars like that.
1.)Sterilize jars
2.)Sterilize needle tip
3.)Sterilize a small bathroom to inoculate
Also use dry vermiculite on the top of your substrate mixtures in your jars. It acts as a filter for contaminates or you can use tyvek which you can get some envelopes for free from your local post office that are 100% tyvek. I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but if you have any questions just post them. This hobby is tough.

yea just as hard as keeping my snakes id say but yea ill work on it all and watch that video again and try this all again once my accomplis is back from the beach (most of the stuff is at his house) but yea we'll try it the right way this time lol

verm has no nutes at all, this could not help contaminates any unless something else soaked into it.

I know. I guess using the word "feed" kind of threw that off. More or less what I was trying to say, or meant to say is that it gives a place for contaminates to propagate. Just an area for them to hide is pretty much what I meant there.
