Outdoors yes. Indoors no. I would at least pasteurize it. You can pasteurize in a normal pot or use the microwave.

how do u pasteurize? also im talking about using nothing. like no ordering a syringe or using brown rice or whatever.
isnt that how the shrooms grow on compost in the first place though? they just grow without those things?

you could squirt some spores into a hat box and there is a chance that it would grow

Yes they are random in nature.

Search PF Tek. Or watch RR's videos here.

That should get you started, and you dont need a pressure cooker, but you will need to get spores...

if you consider what it takes to grow mushrooms indoors its remarkable that a mushroom exists at all.

you need spores to get mushrooms, unless you have a source of spores dumping on your compost your compost will just be compost.  If your looking for something of a result, throwing a wet or even possibly a re-hydrated dried shroom into the compost might yield something of a result.

Yeah this is true, but if you consider Sciences idea of how life started its amazing we are here at all.  Bi-Lipid layer randomly formed in which RNA randomly formed, from which DNA randomly formed, my thoughts thereby randomly formed this sentence.  This too figuring that the conditions were perfect on earth for life to form even though now if you said life randomly self assembled itself on your old meat you would be thought crazy.

I hear about people doing it. You need to be sure there are some wood loving mushrooms that grow in your local area. Otherwise, you won't get anything. If thats what you are doing you don't need to pasteurize or sterilize.

take a fully colonized pf cake and hydrate some horse compost.
dig a hole (preferably in the shade) and bury some of the hydrated horse compost. break up your cake and sprinkle pretty evenly on top of the horse compost.
Fill the rest of the hole with the hydrated horse compost.
water daily.
voila.
if your area is dry like mine, you might want to throw a tarp over it to retain moisture.

hmmm yes you will need spores. i think the chances of the active spores just blowing across your compost pile are slim unless you live in a gay city in california LOL. it sounds like this person just thinks if you have substrate shrooms will grow on it. i think someone has alot of reading about how mushrooms come from a fungus that come from mushroom's spores that come from a mushroom's gills. lol that sounds a little smartassed.searching this site will answer most questions
