Are my shrooms sick?

This is about a week into the first cycle of growing and I added the light a little late I think. Anyways 3 of my cakes have very black heads to them but they feel and smell healthy. Do I have anything to worry about.

Those are just past maturity. Try to pick them a little earlier and you will never see them change colors like that or drop spores everywhere. After the veil breaks and the cap begins to flatten, you've got what you're going to get as far as potency to weight ratio. Letting them develop longer just uses up energy and substrate.

yea, they are a bit over-mature IMO
you should pick those ones with the flat/convex caps.
i usually try to pick right before or as the veil breaks. i think most people pick at this point because they stop producing active compounds around this time, but i do it cause i find that spherical caps dry, store, and eat better than the big flat thin caps.

Ok thanks for all your help I just cut them now and get a good quantity and I put them in a cardboard box. Do you think putting a little PC fan in there would help the venatlation and should I add some vent holes?

The spore deposit on the cap towards the top center looks like the outline of a shroom haha.

Yeah, I had somewhat the same shock when I realized how small cake-grown shrooms are. They look so big in online pictures, even when there's a lighter to give you perspective. As a general rule, you are never going to get the monsters you see off of bulk grows. Though there seems to be some controvery as to size/potency ratio. Some people believe that these small shrooms are just as potent on a 1 to 1 basis as the big boys. I've yet to test this theory myself as I haven't done any research on my grow yet.
Anyway, great looking first flush! You're definitely doing something right, so don't feel "shorted"! LOL

In my personal research, although inconclusive, suggests that the smaller shrooms are more potent gram for gram than the real large shrooms.

I may be wrong, but it would seem to me that that cardboard box and coffee filter would tend to hold in some humidity. I think you'd dry them faster just by blowing a fan over them in open air.

I guarantee you this is true. Anyone who thinks it isn't go eat 3 grams of large shrooms. You might get a good buzz. Then, go eat 3 grams of small shrooms. You will trip twice as hard on the small ones. That is why a huge pinset & smaller shrooms are preferred by most over a few large shrooms. Large shrooms are good for showing off and taking pictures. Smaller ones are preferred for eating.

YOu want to totally spread those out to where they aren't touching, bend the caps just enough that they crack s they lay lat with the stem still attatched.
cut lots of ventholes and hook up fans to it!
get air flow going, and distribute them more evenly so that it's more area for water to evaporate from, leaving them in clumps like that will make them rot.

this is bs miss information.
i want hard evidence from each person to back their claims up.
90% of my grows consist of mushrooms that weigh close to a quarter oz dry each. these are way potent, no matter which end you eat, after cutting one in half by weight, you'll wish you only cut off 2g's instead an 8th.
potency is genetic unless you're dealing with an isolated clone, and then potency should be consistent, when dealing with multispore genetics, one shroom teh same size as another, can be the difference in night and day when it comes to potency.
anyhow....
start pasting? do i need to back what i say up?

Well, I'm careful in what I say; specifically when it comes to science. I did say two key words "personal" and "Inconclusive" that indicate I made no real scientific claim. So I really don't need to provide 'Hard Evidence'.
Peace.

When picking grab them at the bottom and twist and pull. Cutting may leave a part of the mushroom in the cake to rot.
