On the right track, but...

1.)4-5 inches of perlite
2.)need holes in all 6 sides

If you don't put holes you will need to fan 4-6 times a day, but if you put holes in all 6 sides then you need only to do it a couple of times.

Thanks for the response.  Ill be putting 10 holes total.  Ok 4-5 inches of wet and then how much dry on top?

I also found a submersible heater in with the jars, is this only for cold climates?  If theres a room sitting at about 75-80, you wouldnt need the heater, im assuming?

I don't use any dry. If you choose to you can just add like just enough to cover the wet. I mean you'll be misting your petlite, and sides anyway which is going to get it wet right after you put it in so...I don't see why you would do that. No. You don't need a heater. Heaters are used to colonize jars when needed, but when fruiting cakes/casings then temperate is best between something like 72-78 will do fine.

Im still a little confused on misting, excuse me ive had not much time to research this before asking quesions.  Im assuming, when the humidity drops below 100%, you mist?  Or is misting more complicated/tedious than that?

I just mist the sides, and perlite whenever I fan. It can never be too humid for your cakes. I mist the cakes maybe once or twice a day very moderately(everything in moderation) up until they fruit. Once they fruit continue spraying your perlite and sides, but not your cakes. Misting pins/mushrooms can cause them to rot/mold whatever you want to call it.

Ok, so holes, 4-5 inch perlite moist, place cakes in, mist.  Mist everything every time it is fanned, when pins form and fruiting begins do not mist cakes but mist the sides and perlite, still every time its fanned.  Sound good?

Yea...Put the cakes on the jar lids also. That keeps the cakes from getting over saturated by the perlite. When I say mist...I mean MIST. A very light spray...VERY. You don't have to do it every time you check fan unless you are only checking like 2-3 times a day then I guess its safe to say that.

Im also planning on using lysol around the tub before opening.  Is it imperative to keep lysol away from the inside of the tub?

dude  drill lots of holes.  lots.

put alot of holes in the lid too.  youll have a light above the lid and that just makes sense, no?

youll mist the sides of your FC  !!NEVER THE TOP!!

fan 4-5 times a day.

i get a bottle of water, poke 2 tiny holes in the cap, and rewet the perlite daily.  you dont wanna soak it, but wet it.

after you dunk and roll, wait 20 min then spray your rolled cakes.  mist them daily till you see pins start to form. then stop.

Lots of holes all over, small holes, i can do that.  For the perlite re-wetting, just open the top, like in the mornings, and then slowly wet the perlite and not the cakes, correct?

Mist the sides of the FC?  Whats an FC, the cake?

Dunk, roll? lol havent gotten that far in my research yet, is it something you can explain?

Once again sorry for all these questions im just strapped for time.  thanks guys!

you dont pour water on the perlite,  just soak it real well.

fc = fruiting chamber...aka the shotgunFC that you have.

dunk and roll...after birthing your cakes rinse them off well then you put them in water for 24 hours.  make sure they are fully submerged.  then after 24 hours you want to re-rinse and roll in dry vermiculite.  Set them into the fruiting chamber and after 20 minutes spray the cakes.  give them a good spray to get that vermiculite wet.  then play the waiting game and enjoy the fruits of your labor

ok check this.

i didnt dunk.  i let my cakes sit for 3-4 days.  not shit happened.

then i decided to dunk. 2 days after pins! and 4 days after i harvested.

5 full sized shrooms.

when the mycelium is colonizing it takes alot of moisture.  so when you dunk it gets to refill its moisture.. so to speak.

and no. it cannot ruin any cakes from dunkin

Dunking is good, you can mist the cakes as well.  Make sure to spray above them though as being misted directly can cause bruising.
