 Achieve Sterilazation Without PC? not a typical Q

No..not the regular question...
I'm wondering if someone tries to sterilize a jar(rye/pc/etc)without a PC in the Dead Sea(It is 420 metres (1,378 ft) below sea level) could he do this?
I mean, the boiling point of the water should be higher due to the particular atmospheric pressure in that place.
So would he succeed or not?

 im bored.
Ok I googled and found that the Dead Sea's highest atmospheric pressure (that was recorded) was 800 mm Hg. I converted that to inches Hg, it came to be 31.496 in Hg
Then I used this site

The boiling point would be about 215 F, not much higher than your regular 212 F at standard atmospheric pressure 
Fun idea though.

Yep that sounds about right... and the link helped too, But 5000ft above sealevel and waters boiling point is a mere 210o F

We know that you need just about 70°C (158F) to cook water on the Mt. Everest.
The Mt. Everest is 8848 meter (29030 ft) high.
This means that every 295 meter (968 ft), one 1°C (1,8F) less is needed to make the water boil.
If we now take the 420 meter (1,378 ft) and divide them by the number of meters/ft the water needs one degrees less to boil we get the number of degrees we need more to boil the water which is: 1.42°C or 2,556 F.
So we'd need 101,42°C or 214,556 F to boil our water.
This wouldn't be enough to sterilize material in a normal pod.

Nice work, Jadis.
Unfortunately, not using a PC is just riskier concerning contams, you can always try it, but it could end up being a waste of time. If you did end up having growth, white doesnt always mean successful mycelium.

Fahk pleas dont forget to add there that for every 1lb psi you add you effectively raise the boiling point of water 3oF. So youd have to add the 78oF to your final # of 247 to get a Final Total of 326oF

Ha, my calculation is the theoretical way, assuming that the pressure changes in the same way, the elevation or depth increases

Mh, I checked once again and found that it's said, that the pressure on top of the Mt. Everest is 260 mba, which is 10.236220472452 inches Hg.
It's said, that therefore the boiling point of water is at about 69°C.
The calculator you took says, the boiling point would be about 79°C.
Do I miss something??
BTW: If we throw in the Mba in your calculator it says it's spitting out different results for the Inch hg.
It says 260 mba are 7.677826.
It also says 800 mba are 23.62408 Inch hg.

1psi pressure inside the PC=3 *extra* degrees f to boil water... thus @15psi it would = 45 *extra* degrees F.
Ever wonder WHY your radiator cap in your car holds 15-18psi? To Raise the Boiling point of water... let me find a link... I know im right on this one...

That what I was thinking.
However, the question of Tom A Toes was, if he could sterilize without a pressure cooker, and the answer is probably no.
He didn't ask what temp is needed to sterilize using a PC.
All I did, was -at least- trying to show at what temp. water is boiling around the dead sea.

Anyway, the reason why my first calculation was wrong, was the fact, that I made a pretty stupid mistake.
1°C isn't 33,8F, but 1.8F.
I used a C/F calculator and tipped in: 1°C which is 33,8F.
But that isn't the value of one F.
Your system starts at 32 degrees, not at 0 like ours
