Dunked and Rolled after first flush..how long til new pins usually?

So my first flush went pretty well and I picked them all. Then dunked them in the fridge for about 24 hours and put them back in the FC. They turned blueish as expected and changed white again in a few days..its been over a week and I'm not getting pins again. Could these BRF cakes be screwed? There no contam..still cottony white cakes. Think I'm just being impatient?

Damn. So could they just be slow or fucked? No conditions changed. .still 100% humidity in the FC and about 75 degrees. I fan it and mist lightly a few times a day.

Just give it time. I have had cakes take more than 2 weeks after a dunk to pin again...

did you roll them? my friend harvested a flush, then dunked and didn't roll. it took about a week and he got one pin, which was the second flush. luckily the one pin grew to about 21 grams wet. he just harvested another cake the other day and did a dunk and roll (actually, he did an experiment with a nutrient dunk, the results of which i will post for him when all is said and done) and is seeing pins after about 3 days.

The chances for a fail are dramatically increased by using nutrient enriched water. It's an invite for contams, since the mycelium needs rather long to recover and to use the nutrients again, while bacteria and molds can start using them immediately.
So this might not the best way, to achieve the desired results.
In my experience, it takes from three days to two weeks; depending on the very mushroom you try to fruit.

if the chances for failure weren't high, it wouldn't have been worth experimenting with. there are pins at the moment, still contamination free. i'll post the log when my friend is done. yeah, though, it's hella risky, and if you don't have time or materials to fuck around and waste you should by all means avoid nutrient water. sorry if it sounded like i was promoting it...although if all keeps going well for my friend i just may eventually.

Yeah, I know it was an "experiment". My post was just supposed to show people who are new to this, that this might not be a considerable solution to avoid waiting time
Experiments are highly necessary in this hobby to figure out new ways etc. Though as long as you've no experience you shouldn't bother experimenting, since this might ruin all your efforts, due to contaminated growing facilities (and this isn't supposed to be pointed at you, but to anyone who hasn't any experience ).

Oh yeah, would using tap water be a terrible idea..cuz I did. The mycelium seems to have recovered. Its not blue anymore.

the verm my friend has is pretty big, too. when he makes his casing soil he rubs it together in his hands to crumble. for rolling he puts some in the blender.

I hear you. Experimenting is fun too, but everyone should get down the basics of growing first. If they start experimenting with their first grow, the chances are that it will flop.

Tap water is fine. It really isn't hardly any different than the shit people buy in stores.

tap water's never caused any problems with anyone i know. i'm sure when the cake is almost on it's last flush and more prone to contams distilled or something may be better. i read an RR post today talking about how you have to boil water for a full 5 min to sterilize it, so i guess if you want to be extra safe just boil for 5 min, pour into whatever you're dunking in (my friend dunks his half-pint cakes in quart jars), seal it up and let the water cool to a point where it's safe to put the cake in. however, upon typing that and envisioning it the cake could still get fucked up if anything happens to have already attached itself to the cake. so...i don't know.

I had always maade sure to boil the water I dunked my cakes in beforehand; but after my buddy grew out a cake I gave him only using tap water for the dunks; I knew it had to be fine. He got like 6 or 7 flushes off of a half pint cake.

Woot! Got a couple small pins on a couple of the cakes..the rest probably arent far behind. I didnt dunk and roll them for their first flush. Think this one will be as good or better then the last?
