So crap.. i just went to pasteurize my bulk sub using the oven bag tek in my oven.. i overheated the substrate for about 5-10mins at like 280F (obviously way higher than the recommended 185F max). I just realized how hot it was, pulled it out and put it in the freezer to cool... should I just toss it now? should I attempt to finish pasteurization at the proper temps? any suggestions?

I would toss it. I have got my poo to around 195 when it was first heating up and it worked, but I was worried. Over a hundred degrees I think is wayyy too much. I would seriously toss it.

ive heard of people spawning to completely sterlized substrates before with success.
but your chances of not getting contams are considerably poor.

If it was only 5-10 minutes the internal temps wouldn't have been anywhere near that temperature. I'd repasturize. It's also possible to get a clean grow from some sterile bulk substrates. If the spawn ratio is high and you got colonization in 3-4 days, you'd probably be fine.

It was measured with a thermometer inserted into the middle of the bag, so that would likely be the temperature of the whole thing. The spawn ratio is roughly 2.5-3L of spawn (6 pint jars of rye) to roughly 10L of substrate, so i'd say about 1:4. It will be used monotub style in a 50qt (47L) container.
I think I will toss it and mix up some new stuff. I have more of all the ingredients, but I dont have more spawn available. My biggest concern is that I dont have a 'clean room' to mix the spawn in... I'm going to use lots of oust, shower, listerine, mask, gloves & shower cap in a fairly open room with nothing around it and still air, but I can't exactly clean it top to bottom because there is still a lot of crap that can't realistically be moved (furniture, storage, etc - its my living room) so I'm concerned. What do you guys think?

Dry heat doesn't penetrate your substrate as well as wet heat does. It's like baking anything else, the outside gets hot first and then the inside. You got to 280 on the inside of the bag, therefore the outer layers of your substrate got to well over 280 for a longer period then the inside did. Your bulk substrate isn't just partially sterilized, it's cooked.
You can try to spawn it, but instead of wasting Colonized Rye Berries, I'd go ahead and try to mix some more bulk substrate and do the pasteurization again. Ovens are not typically optimal for pasteurization, wet heat tends to work much better.
If you want to take a risk, go ahead and spawn to your heavily cooked substrate, in the most sterile conditions that you can muster, and cross your fingers...or get on your knees and pray.
...or just make more bulk substrate and pasteurize it, paying close attention to your oven.
Good luck.

I'm having trouble seeing an oven bag at 280. Is that possible? I mean, boiling occurs at 212, an oven bag wouldn't reach 280 unless it was bone dry right?
