Mycopath pre-sterilized rye or millet bags question...
    #8520685 - 06/13/08 05:07 PM (5 months, 7 days ago)

I figured my post would be moved if I posted in the Cultivation Forum, so I hope I get a response on this.

Has anybody used Mycopath's pre-sterilized rye or millet bags?  Problems with contams?  I hear these bags take a long time to colonize, but i can wait a month.  Any input?

I think the price is right on these.  Assume I'm using a strain w/ fairly rhizomorphic growth, how long can I expect to full colonization on a 2lb bag?  How about a 4lb bag? Assume optimum growth conditions.

If you have any input other than what I mentioned, please share, as I'm interested.

It shouldn't take a month to colonize any bag....but just for your interest.....do a search on Mycopath's business etiquette and then decide if you still wish to order from him/her.

the bag itself should colonize in under a month...its more dependent upon WHAT you inoculate it with and what your inoculation rate is....
if inoculate a 2lb bag of millet with 10 ccs of oyster liquid culture its 100% colonized in about 12-14 days.

your mileage may vary.

good luck.

i personally have had great results in ordering supplies from mycopath.

If you're doing a grain to grain transfer, it could take as little as 3-5 days to colonize. However if you use spores, or a small liquid culture, it can take some time, depending on mushroom species, and growing conditions.

It is a fact that spore inoculation is just not the optimal inoculation method, because germination takes more time than already growing mycelium. However Spores can be used, and if done aseptically, you can obtain results.

I have two 4 lbs bags sitting in my closet which are about 85% colonized in under two weeks from spores. No signs of contamination, only snowy myc, and turn around time for MO was quick.

A+

How many cc's did you inoculate each 4lb bag with?  Good luck with your project.
