Gasoline May Soon Cost a Sawbuck

Get ready for another economic shock of major proportions — a virtual doubling of prices at the gas pump to as much as $10 a gallon.
That's the message from a couple of analytical energy industry trackers, both of whom, based on the surging oil prices, see considerably more pain at the pump than most drivers realize.
Gasoline nationally is in an accelerated upswing, having jumped to $3.58 a gallon from $3.50 in just the past week. In some parts of the country, including New York City and the West Coast, gas is already sporting a price tag above $4 a gallon. There was a pray-in at a Chevron station in San Francisco on Friday led by a minister asking God for cheaper gas, and an Arco gas station in San Mateo, Calif., has already raised its price to a sky-high $4.62.
In Manhattan, at a Mobil gas station at York Avenue and East 61st Street, premium gas is now $4.03 a gallon. Two days ago, it was $3.96. Why such a high price? "Blame the people at STOPEC (he meant OPEC) and the oil companies," an attendant there told me.
These increases are taking place before the all-important summer driving season, signaling even higher prices ahead.
That's also the outlook of the Automobile Association of America. "As long as the price of crude oil stays above $100 a barrel, drivers will be forced to pay more and more at the gas pump," a AAA spokesman, Troy Green, said.

The link says that a few anylysts predict $10 gasoline. Then it sites one. His prediction is that oil will hit $200 a barrel from increasing demand.
Quote:
His latest prediction of $200 oil is open to question, since it would undoubtedly create considerable global economic distress. Further, just about every energy expert I talk to cautions me to expect a sizable pullback in oil prices, maybe to between $50 and $70 a barrel, especially if there's a global economic slowdown.
While Mr. Gaines thinks there could be a temporary decline in the oil price, he's convinced an overall uptrend is unstoppable. In fact, he thinks his $200 forecast could be conservative, and that perhaps $250 could be reached. His reasoning: a combination of shrinking supply and increasing demand, especially from China, India, and America.
Read that part about global economic slowdown and tell me how if gas will have risen that much, people would still turn to it as a fuel source en masse, let alone that a global economic crisis would emerge?

I have been telling people since 2005 the economy was headed for trouble and that gas prices and the prices of everything else is going up. They called me a fool and I have been enjoying incredible profits ever since.
Enjoy the 4$ gas this summer and I will enjoy my oil/alt energy/ and precious metals investments!

Yea, it's hilarious. What do you think they prayed is what I wonder. The only thing funnier than the fact that they did it would be the excerpt of their actual words.
-------------------- "We have the satisfaction to find, that in nature there is wisdom, system, and consistency. For having, in the natural history of this earth, seen a succession of worlds, we may from this conclude that there is a system in nature ... by which they are intended to continue these revolutions. But if the succession of worlds is established in the system of nature, it is in vain to look for anything higher in the origin of the earth. The result, therefore, of our present enquiry is, that we find no vestige of a beginning and no prospect of an end."

Show me a reason why a barrel of oil costs so much today compared to 5 years ago. Go ahead and try.
Demand is up? Sure -- is it really up that much? Oh. no.
Supply is down? Well now hold on. I might remember wrong, but I don't believe that's the case.
Oh wait, it's high because it's expected to continue to rise even more. LOL COMMODITY MARKETS!
Stupid shit. This is also a large reason food prices are so high.

China's demand is up less than 5%.
OPEC output for march 2008 compared to march 2007 is up approx. 10%
So what's the problem.

The there is a false shortage of oil.
Peek oil is a fraud and the elite are keeping prices up, while artificially keeping the supply is low.

The only good news about this is the higher the gas prices are the more reasons we have to hasten the developement of alt energy and fuel.

Except that's a problem, because we'll be (are being) thrown these solutions that are non-solutions because OH CRAP TIME IS RUNNING OUT! and we don't have time to come up with a REAL, GOOD solution.
We should just start burning whale oil in our cars.. at least we already know the problems associated with that.

So, as oil gets rediculous - what will you all be doing to cope? I realize this is slightly off topic - but I'm intrigued. Get a more fuel efficient automobile? Buy a little 250cc motorcycle? Suck it up and pay?
Will alternate fuels ever be developed to be used by the masses? If so, when?
I feel like this whole 'oil' issue has been around for years - and I have still yet to hear of any mainstream solutions other than that honda car that runs off water vapor(which i'm sure it actually doesn't - at least not to the extent advertised).

When I started driving gas was 29 cents and it has gone only upward since then. It seems kind of silly to predict that prices will continue to rise when that's all they have ever done. In other words. So what?
