Oysters on straw

Chopped barley straw was sanitized in a hydrated lime bath (1 lb Ca(OH)2 in 100 lbs water at 40°C(104°F)) for 2 hours, then drained, let cool to 25°C, inoculated with ~10% warm weather oyster mushroom spawn on birdseed, packed in plastic bags, then around 20 holes were punctured in the bag with a pencil. The bags were put in a cellar, at ~18°C(65°F) and ~70°RH. After around 14 days fruits emerged.

They look great, really decent sized clusters forming there. What's the latin name for the warm weather oyster?

Thanks, that goes by a few different names it seems. Would higher relative humidity be better or is 70% fine?

Actually yes, I added a spoonful of bio degradable dish washing liquid to the tub to help with the hydration.

Hard to tell, I didn't weigh the straw, it was a big pillow full, perhaps 6 or 7 pounds of straw and the tub was around 1o gallons.

Thanks Anno! I have tried this with cubes before with good results, but the mixture was pretty crude at the time (because of lack of knowledge) and I just used room temp water. The higher temperature water works better huh? Kinda like if you heat bleach water and it bleaches faster. I think I will attempt it on some oysters myself this week for a few new bags of Pink's. Firing up the old barrel can be quite a chore sometimes!
