 Moving Shiitake Outside? (with pics) Advice Requested

Hi All--
This is my first post, though Ive been enjoying reading these forums for about a year now. And I must state that I am a total newbie to mushroom cultivation, and that Ive perused the forums and faqs but havent been able to find the needed advice (most threads I can find deal with starting colonization outdoors...)
I have a fully colonized (with shiitake) bag of wood substrate that has been sitting in my fruiting chamber for nearly 5 weeks with no signs of pins or shrooms. (in the pics, it looks a bit "slimy" but the photo makes it look slimier than it actually is... and I had just misted before taking the pics).
What I would like to do is move this colonized substrate outside: into the hollow of a fallen tree is the idea Id like to pursue. I live in southern New York, with temps in the summer ranging from 60-95. (As mentioned, I am a newbie to mushroom cultivation/identification, but there are tons of different kinds of shrooms everywhere on my property each spring/summer/fall, so I assume that the conditions here are somewhat favorable). Here are a few pics of some fallen trees that I would consider transfering the colonized substrate to:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And I do realize that this may not be the recommended or best cultivation technique. My primary reasons for doing this are that nothing seems to be happening inside, and I do not have the time necessary to devote to cultivating, indoors or out, and, short of misting on dry days, I would love to cross my fingers and let nature take its course). Questions I have are: should I add anything (manure? straw?) to the mix when I transfer to the tree? Should I prepare the tree in any way? Anything else that Im unaware of that I should do?

What are the temps in the FC? You may just need to give 'em a cold shock to initiate pinning.

Temps in the chamber fluctuate between 65 at night and 75 at day... This is a newbie question, I'm sure, but I'm familiar with cold shocking (dunking) cakes from jars, but how would you recommend cold-shocking the already opened grow bag? (My gut feels like if I tried to dunk it, it would disintegrate into a muddy mess...)

Stick it outside overnight in a plastic grocery bag to help keep it moist, as long as it's a few degrees above freezing. 75 is really pushing it for shiitaki to fruit.

Thanks! I will put it outside tonight and back in the FC tomorrow.
Any thoughts on the feasibility of my other idea? I.e., moving it to a fallen tree outside for the summer?

Hi Radagast,
welcome to the Shroomery.
First of all you need to cold shock the blocks of shiitake for a week in fridge (or into the snow if you have the snow), then soak them for a night in water.
Put them into your FC, do not mist too much, they're too wet! Wait something like 4-5 days and you'll see the primordias, they are something like popcorns, but unexploded and white.

ps. i haven't experience growing the mushrooms outdoor but that place seems too dry for the mushrooms.

You need to peel the bag off.. Then just set it in a clear tote with a couple of 2 inch holes on it. No misting needed.
Wait and you should get some mushrooms.
If nothing for 2 weeks, then do a 4 hour Cold water soak and then wait another 2 weeks in the clear tote.
