My shiitake block

So my Shiitake block wasnt doing anything, just sitting there. Didn't brown, saw no signs of primordia. So I decided to cold shock it by tossing it in the fridge for a week, then I soaked it in cold water over night. Its been a couple weeks and it has now browned over, but still not much else.
Should I cold shock and/or soak it again? Or just leave it be? It is well hydrated.

I have no idea, I'm yet to give shiitakes a try. I am however very interested to see how it turns out. Good luck.

Usually, my strains begin to brown within a week or so of full colonization. I usually wait two weeks past full colonization, and then birth the blocks out of the filter patch bags after they've spent a few days in cooler temps. Soak for 24 hours and introduce to fruiting conditions. Normally, within a week or so they've blistered up well. Some strains get browner than others though. Have your blocks blistered well? RR

No blistering at all, or at least as far as I define blistering, this being my first time with shiitake. I let it sit for a good 3 weeks after full colonization and nothing was happening, no browning. So I decided that maybe it needed a cold shock before browning, so I put it in the fridge for a week, then I took it out and soaked it over night, then finally put it out to fruit. It is brown now after 2 weeks, but still no real sign of fruiting.
Should I try and cold shock it again, or just be patient?

So you cold shock it then expose it to 75 deg average temps, that's probably were your problem is. 70 is more or less the max temp for shiitakes to fruit. You get above that and it's just not going to happen.

Ok thanks. I will put it under the grow light in the basement instead. Should I give it another cold shock first?

Most refrigerators are in the low 30's which is too cold for shiitake. You want the cold shock at around 50F. If it's too cold, it throws it into dormancy. I soaked in ice water once and had the same problem. You might just let the block sit in 70F temps for awhile and dry out, and then repeat the cold shock, but at a warmer temp. Soak overnight in cold tap water and try again. RR

Fridge seems too cold, I tried it with no luck as well.
Key for me was a square cooler, a large pan and a brick. Load up as many blocks as you can, fill with water, add a bucket of ice, then put the pan inside with the brick on top of it and close the lid. Or do it with a round cooler, and a round pan. Either way, they need to be completely submerged the entire time.
Add ice as needed to keep it hovering in that range of 40-45F for 48 hours.
