Reishi on grain help

Ok so last night me and Tripsis were talking about our reishi on grain, i had shaken a jar and spawned to some chips, Tripsis said he cant shake his jars and it was impossible to break it up, I had told him nar its bloody easy and il do it again and take some pictures to show him how easy it is, so I grabbed another jar of reishi on rye shook it up and agggrhhhh it would not break up so I banged the jar on my tyre but I could not brak it up, after I got angry not being able to break it up i took the blob of reishi on grain out of the jar and it was like leather it was impossible still
now my question can we just not let it colonise fully and spawn like that, or should we keep shaking the jar when it looks almost fully colonise just before it looks like milk in a jar? will that keep it from turning into leather? does anyone else have this problem ?

Just rip a bit off. IME it's pretty unstoppable. I've got a plastic container of Reishi on popcorn, it's pretty dry now, but for the last year I've been pulling off little bits to spawn more jars/plates etc., and it just takes off given enough food/moisture.
If it's hard to rip, cut or chop it.

These are some native Gano. japonicums? I think. I found them in the "Never Never" in Oz, in a canyon-see the waterfall in the back?

what I meant was when I spawn it to chips and whatever else, id like to mix it evenly through the bulk ripping a piece off is not ideal for me.

Yep it went great, well it was going great. Had a cool snap set in this past week, cold and wet. In the house its down to 68F and the Reishi have slowed right down as a result. Hoping once it warms up again they will rebound.

i have this problem a lot too. all you can really do is shake it often before it thickens. if i have to i put jars in the fridge to stall them a day or two if the bulk sub isnt ready yet. Stamets recommends against putting spawn in the fridge though because you risk fridge born contaminants. Ive never had a problem with it.

I just shake the jars every 2 days after colonization until I need them. Definitely is not one that can be over-incubated. I had a couple of jars that did that. Just ditched them in the trash.
I am going to start making my spawn as big plugs from now on because it is so mush easier to just throw a big plug of perlite/bran spawn in the bag. Plus you don't have to guage it as you pour by sight. You can actually pre calculate your spawning ratio according to the species or whatever. Perlite/bran spawn breaks up good! Better than grain.
