I musta looked at em funny...because a big bunch of them aborted! This was before I dragged our outdoor mini-greenhouse inside and made a spot in the apartment to set it up. I think it was a combination of too little humidity topped with not enough light. The block of straw was much lighter than it had been when I released it from its plastic bag prison to initiate fruiting
But I see some new growth after dunking it and placing it in the makeshift greenhouse.
I sympathize; it seems simple and straight-forward when you read about growing mushrooms, but when you're beginning, so many things can go wrong. I've been stockpiling coffee grounds for a while now, and just discovered you should warm them in the oven, so they don't grow moldy. Sure enough, I just checked and they were contaminated. I'm setting about to pasteurize some straw this afternoon.
