Shiitake and Black Poplars on straw

I read a post about growing shiitakes on rice straw mixed with a bit of rice as a supplement. I've also heard that you can grow Black Poplar mushrooms on straw as well. And in GGMM there is a picture of King Stropharia growing on straw with a casing layer.

Can anyone give me some tips or point me toward some education on growing species that prefer sawdust on straw instead? I have my whole operation tooled to straw right now and I'm having great success. But I want to expand my product line from just oysters and have never had much luck growing in filter bags.
