both those pieces are from the "reflections" album. the first one was "heat" and the second one was "toreador II"

glad you like it. all of their stuff is pretty badass.
you can also check out their other albums if you want. click the "releases" link at the top of the homepage and it will list everything they have released on the left of the page. click on an album for a songlist. most of the albums have samples of the music on the disc.
i want to order the "reflections revised" cd + dvd sometime soon.

That's pretty cool. Is it all instrumental?

It was a while ago that I saw them and I don't recall drums in the live performance, only 4 guys on cello's. and that was all instrumental yes. I think they use effects sometimes though like distortion.

Apocalyptica rocks, well they used to anyway, I think they started going downhill when they got Dave Lombardo to do drums, starting with the album Reflections. I didn't even get their newest album after I heard it had drums on it again. The first 3 releases are AMAZING, I highly recommend the album Cult. Its easily their best work.

Did you know America ranks the lowest in education but the highest in drug use? It's nice to be number one, but we can fix that. All we need to do is start the war on education.

I checked out Cult today. I've been looking for something like this for a while. So the distorted parts are really a cello?

Yep, four of em. On their cover of One, which is on Inquisition Symphony, one of the cellists actually plays the drum parts on his cello, which is pretty cool.
Like I said, their first 3 albums are amazing.

i agree with you: adding the drummer was a bad idea.
today was the first time i've really gotten to listen to reflections and the self-titled album while not concentrating on something else. i'm a cello player, so i unconsiously/automatically tend to zero in on the cello parts and filter out everything else, but every once in a while i still do hear a cymbal getting beat to death in the background. they're still putting out some great music, but they could get rid of the drummer to make it even better.
