Upright bass... best instrument ever?

One week a friend and I smoked all day long and watched a one-hour, public access loop of this dude just groovin out a bass solo, really getting down into that thing. It was the some of the best ~96 hours of my life.

Nah, best instrument is the cello, which is what the upright bass is derived from
UB is definately the funkiest, though, fo sho
I have an electrical bass I haven;t touched in forever, I fear I will never be the next John Entwistle, or Les Claypool

I'll take funkiest, I'm in a real funky mood
I just want to play an instrument where I can stick my ass out at the ladies and still look fucking cool.

Also, bassists in general are fucking savs

Pierced and painted in the same two hours, Jeff took it like a sav. 2. sav noun: A person who exhibits the admirable traits of a savage, for instance being able to kill a cheeta with one's bear hands or aliing a twenty stair.
O shit! The motherfucker is a sav.
3. sav Short for savage. Generally unknown to the world outside of Shorecrest High School (where it originated).
"Did you see that sav at the soccer game last night, he won the game in OT on a free kick."
I can agree to that

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't agree
And the ones that disagree are usually hit by said bass

Reason 1 why upright bass is better than bass guitar (close call): you can take a bow to a bass guitar, but you're gonna have mixed results
Reason 2: it's the Ron Jeremy of instruments

Now you got the idea. I'm not banging on the bass guitar btw, I own one of em and zero uprights, but as soon as I have an extra g, I'll rectify the situation.

Awesome, always wanted to try an upright. Closest thing I have now is a acoustic/electric fretless.

If your name isn't Jaco, Victor, Stanley, or MAYBE McBride then I don't wanna fucking hear you solo on the bass.

Those are the few that immediately come to mind. I even skip through the bass solo on A Love Supreme, and that's one of the best albums ever.
Edit: I'm not a big Claypool fan anyway. And you can put out the video whenever you want, I probably won't be watching it unless you become big. I don't waste my time on bass players unless I know for a fact they are good.

I'm getting my dad's old upright bass.. i can't wait.
I'll probably end up picking it up in the fall... i haven't played bass since i was like 15, and that was an electric.. but, it'll be fun to have a friend play a drum and just start knocking away at that upright...

I love double bass and washtub. I love it in jazz, rockabilly, and psychobilly. Washtub makes for a good impromptu jam.
