http://www.amazon.com/Train-Your-Mind-Change-Brain/dp/1400063906

A book about neuroscience and buddhism... the theme is neuroplasticity, or how we can change the physical structure of our brain using the mind. It helped me spiritually by giving me a good dose of HOPE.

The presence that emanates from this man has awoken me
http://www.youtube.com/user/Moojiji
If you want spiritual awakening read some Ramana Maharshi or Papaji, or his disciples Mooji & Gangaji.
If you want spiritual knowledge there are thousands of books for you to read.
Id really recommend reading some Ramana Maharshi then meditating though, even if you don't understand him he will lead you to truth as his presence is all encompassing. Simply be open to truth.
Go to teachings & writings.
http://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/Allpub.html
If you want a huge book to read buy Oshos book of secrets its fantastic.
I sincerely recommends Ramana, or Papaji/Gangaji/Mooji as they are all in the lineage of Ramana which is seriously powerful if you want to awaken.

"Don't explain, don't complain, just say thank you..." -Mooji/Moojiji
Bow to that...?? Why??
If people didn't complain... Civil rights...?? Medical MJ...?? Healthcare...?? Reformation...?? Revolution...?? If people didn't explain... Galileo...?? Aristotle...?? Socrates...?? Einstein...?? If people just say thank you... Modern western religion... And they look the other way.
Mooji/Moojiji seems to have mastered the art of saying nothing profoundly, imo. What is it that he says that is supposed to have significance...??
A spiritual Warrior is a pillar of faith, passive stances are laughable when the world needs real help.
Just say thank you...

BFTD Spirituality is not about the material world and what can be gained & lost there, its about spirituality.
The original poster asked for information about spirituality. Not about the acts of humanities ego & the causes & effects of it.
You seem to have the attitude that resistance helps you or something!?
Ego can acheive great worldly things because the ego wants to be best at everything, science sport, even religious ego's, would there be champions & winners without egos? Of course not! Ego plays out beautifully! I dont have any problem with it.
But by the time a person looks to spirituality most of them have grown tired of the objectivity of worldly fascination & aquisition and are ready to turn inward.
the best thing anyone can do to help the world is Self realization, anything else is just about "me" & what i want, which again there is nothing wrong with, but some people want more out of this wonderful human life.

Ditto, I'd include a few more modern teachers such as Adyashanti, David Carse, Leo Hartong, Jeff Foster, and Robert Adams. Look them up on Amazon. These are the most direct teachings.

Really, the fundamental, ultimate mystery -- the only thing you need to know to understand the deepest metaphysical secrets -- is this: that for every outside there is an inside and for every inside there is an outside, and although they are different, they go together. - Alan Watts

its about spirituality.
I think this is our biggest problem. In my mind you can't separate the two. The material world is an expression of human/plant/animal/mineral spirit.
You seem to have the attitude that resistance helps you or something!?
I am Odysseus. The path of most resistance is the Hero's Journey. IMO, you learn more from getting your spirit crushed, your faith tested, and having your physical body on trial for a period of time.
But by the time a person looks to spirituality most of them have grown tired of the objectivity of worldly fascination & aquisition and are ready to turn inward.
Is that why Freemasons are some of the most powerful men in the world?? Are they not spiritual to you?? They apply the teachings directly to the world. The don't hide on a pillow in front of a bunch of followers. Not that I side with anyone. I would rather incorporate the mystery schools of geometry, God, and progress... Than a flimsy Bliss state from some Guru.
anything else is just about "me" & what i want
Self realization isn't about what the individual wants...?? SELF HELP, SELF DISCOVERY, SELF BETTERMENT, SEARCH FOR SELF... WANT, WANT, WANT...
but some people want more out of this wonderful human life.
Damn straight. There are many problems that need solutions. I will help and make a difference, I hope.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys!
I've only recently started really thinking about spirituality. Before I thought about my spirituality, my life was difficult and it constantly drained me. I was also a full-blown atheist. I had no faith in anything and thought life was just a meaningless existence. But now that my life is calmer, i can see things for what they truly are.

I watched sum adyashanti the other day and it was a pleasant experience
My name is the same as one of those guys you mentioned so i better check them out, maybe its a sign! Or maybe its me!?
BFTD you are right about being crushed for your own growth as thats what suffering/pain is, growth/rebirth. When you can allow the pain of growth with no resistance it is very liberating. Ive actually felt physical pain & immense fear transmute into such a deep bliss, it was one of the best experiences ever!
Also its really not about flimsy bliss states, you seem to be really against mooji and thats cool, i actually understand. What i realzed & many others have too from "guru's" is that its ALL about helping others, because in truth there is no other, all there is, is you, the impersonal Self in all beings, and if you fully know this, that you are in all beings, how can you not help "others"
There is no difference between guru or god, the grace is all encompassing.
Whatever in your heart you feel is right for you, IS right for you, so if you think mooji is a nutbag then dont bother with him, i can only speak from what has worked over here, & that surely has worked for me in unspeakable ways.

Snap. I used to try to find truth in Stpehn Hawking books
If there's one bit of advice i wish id received from the start of my search its that, you already are what you are seeking if theres on e thing to have faith in its that, forget faith in god & know you already are everything you could possibly search for, no thing outside of you can satisfy the spiritual itch.
I cant believe the hoops i was jumping through until i realized that simple truth.
If you ever want sum advice, im here, & i don't mean that as "im more spiritually advanced so come to me", i mean that as i genuinely like to help people who want truth more than any thing

Yup. I hear you.
Otherwise... You funny. I laugh. That's good.
Not that anyone is a 'nutbag' (I am for sure ) I just don't resonate well with certain styles. Perhaps cause my path led through hell and the ?'dainty'? way about things doesn't sit well with me. I'm all Viking and shit swinging a Morning Star to save my life.

Undoubtedly www.youtube.com
and
Unweaving the Rainbow by Richard Dawkins
oh yes and the God Delusion good reads!

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here." - Richard Dawkins

Robert Svoboda's series on Aghora has been an eye-opener. It is required for anyone whose path towards the Absolute is bhakthi and sadhana. It is an intense, energetic read. Absolutely loved it.
