What it's all about.

The Hokey Pokey.
I saw a bumper sticker on a car today that read:
Quote:
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it's all about?
Funny, yes, but is there a deeper meaning that we miss while laughing at it? Or, if we do not find it funny, are we incapable of understanding philosophical humor?
The meaning of meaning. Can anything mean whatever we want it to mean? If so, what does that mean? How well do abstract meanings pasted on top of common ones work?
Are we in a world of our own making? Is anyone out there? Is anyone in here? How do we know?
Discus.

Discus.
There is no way to know, end of discussion IMO.
What is up for discussion is beliefs and how attached we are to them or afraid of not having absolute assurance in them.
This is where honesty and courage come in to it; the closest we can come to truth IMO.

Personally I think it's about learning how to intelligently (and wisely) manifest reality. First you have to establish some guidelines for yourself in terms of how you make your decisions. The parable about the mustard seed touches upon this. Surely we are not meant to go on experiencing as we presently are. Why do you think people take psychedelics?? If ayahuasca tasted like wonderful candy then the kids who don't know how to swim would dive far too deep. Shamanic drugs don't taste good. They are intimidating for a reason. IMO drug alkaloids were designed to taste atrocious... Then you start asking questions and demanding answers.

Perhaps, and I'm just spitballing here, Shamanic drugs taste bad because they're toxic?
Quote:
Toxic:
1 : containing or being poisonous material especially when capable of causing death or serious debilitation.
2 : exhibiting symptoms of infection or toxicosis
Eat 12 ounces of food and check your reaction.
Eat 12 ounces of shrooms and check your reaction.
Which one will debilitate you?
I'm sure hair-splitters can try to find a way around this, but toxic substances are poisonous.
It's incontrovertible.

I think the bumper sticker isn't profound at all, only clever.
We can project whatever we want to on the vague symbolism of "hokey pokey" if we choose to forget that it is the most awesome dance there is.
I say the hokey pokey is the dance of life, and in extremely blatant fact, that is all there is.

The meaning of things lies not in the meaning themselves, but in our attitudes towards them.
-------------------- THE ETERNAL LAW OF LIFE
"What you think and feel you bring into form.
Where your thought is, there you are.
For you are your consciousness,
and what you meditate upon, you become."
"Everything you could want and could be, you already have and are."
According to the Tao, true words seem paradoxical.

meaning is a linguistic creation, it has no existence outside of the human mind.
maybe nature has intentions for us... but they are obscured when we filter them through language.
