Far more are born than murdered, most just get old. Perhaps being alive at all is the greatest joy of all, but how would anyone ever really know. Maybe its not so bad.

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain - and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Human labels fail to demonstrate nature's true character.  It just is.  I don't judge it.

human labels are the system in which we can operate to design opinions or evaluation systems, so we can function in a society and exchange information/opinions. imo.

Divine play. All non-physical pain is self-chosen. Organisms in a great deal of pain, or organisms which live a lifestyle not following the code of nature, and thus causing themselves pain but not knowing it (stagnating)  are eliminated by the flow of nature.

Nature's flow is towards God, and it aims to eliminate pain. Weak organisms are organisms in pain. There's nothing to complain about.

I say it just is, I understand that nothing in the universe is inherent and that any thing you (not a personal attack) may deem as cruel is a result of your upbringing.

I think "murder" is a label affixed to human interactions, not for the common designation of "nature" itself....

Wiki - Murder:  Murder is the unlawful killing of a human person with malice aforethought, as defined in Common Law countries.
Murder is generally distinguished from other forms of homicide by the elements of malice aforethought and the lack of lawful justification.

Semantics, but, it makes a difference.....

Nature is a cycle of survival, and the cycle of nature just, IS....
Nothing "living" lasts forever, and at some point after a life is thrust upon this world, it will be consumed in one fashion or another....

Nature may be indifferent to the SUFFERING of it's prey, but that does not mean it is "cruelty"....
Cruelty is a human concept....

Okay, I hear that.  But how can a label tell you anything for sure about nature's nature?  We are biased because we look with human eyes.  We can only only look to and through our own established systems to define nature and thus it seems that result would always be slanted.  The only way a man can determine nature's nature is to examine his own.

To me: nature is not cruel.  It is efficient.

Nature is murder, also love
..care, stubbed toes
saturday morning cartoons
cold pizza, confusion,
seeking to understand,
reducing life...

Why resort to reductionism?
but I guess why not?

Nature just is.

I  understand the arguments and opinions expressed here, concerning human values and concepts placed on nature, it makes sense.

And although these ARE human values, and emotionally biased, how much easier is it, to detachedly explain while sitting at your computer in an anonymous forum, about nature, suffering and dying, when you are not looking at it directly.

The OP blatantly uses strong emotive words to explain their point of view.
But I don't think it is a view to be dismissed so easily.

Do no other animals have any similar views?

If not, then we ARE really alone on earth in this mentality that we have created, an anomaly?

If it's indifferent it can't be cruel. That's your subjective feelings leaking in.

Filled with murder

Its ALL life feeding on life, giving birth to itself & killing itself at the same time.
Its horrific but at the same time hilarious how innocent we all are killing each other.

However you seem to be kinda down on nature, it is cruel but its for your own growth, we cant feel kindness if we cant feel cruelty, they are inseparable.

Do you think a mother goes through hell to give birth then bitches about how cruel life is when shes cuddling her little bundle of joy?

:peace:

I think we should stop anthropomorphizing nature.  It doesnt have feelings, goals or agendas.  There is no way it should or shouldnt be, it simply is.

The difference between natural and unnatural exists only in our minds.

--------------------
Behold yon miserable creature. That Point is a Being like ourselves, but confined to the non-dimensional Gulf. He is himself his own World, his own Universe; of any other than himself he can form no conception; he knows not Length, nor Breadth, nor Height, for he has had no experience of them; he has no cognizance even of the number Two; nor has he a thought of Plurality; for he is himself his One and All, being really Nothing. Yet mark his perfect self-contentment, and hence learn his lesson, that to be self-contented is to be vile and ignorant, and that to aspire is better than to be blindly and impotently happy.
