I am going to try this after this next batch

Just a thought... but wouldn't it make more sense to try to extract the psilocybin from exhausted cakes using a more acidic liquid such as cranberry juice instead of water? I think I'm going to try this by simmering an crumbled exhausted cake in cranberry juice for a half hour or so.

Well.. There IS some confusion - I recon many unpatient people consider making tea from colonized jar which never been fruited.
Do not do it - mycelium which never fruited doesn't contain any considerable ammount of psilocybin, and you will waste jar.
A little bit later will post results of making tea from nonvirgin substrate. Virgin substrate, once more, is totally waste to kill into a tea. Patience is a virtue.

I'll post an actually useful post.
It works, used 1, spent from 3 flushes, BRF cake. Simmered it in hot, but not boiling water for 10 minutes. Then strained for another 10 with a coffee filter, and I got a trip I'd usually get from 1.5 grams.
The cake was also crushed into cubes aswell and the result was hot chocolate that tastes like something stale but I couldn't put my finger on the food. Maybe stale mushrooms.

That's extremely cool that you had success with that although I don't see how you could of due to the fact that heat breaks down the psylocibin and psylocin which are the two psycoactive chemicals responsible for a journey. My guess would be that since there is an extremely high amount in one cake of marvelous mycelium that whatever breakdown occured would be offset due to the concentration. Wicked: you might have boiled too long and actually when preparing food (or in this case delisious tea) you never boil anything in the culinary world except pasta and potatoes but even then it should be closer to a poaching temp (160-180).
I would suggest to anyone out there that would like to try this out, and I will too partake in this experiment as soon as mine are cached out, to merely bring whatever liquid you are making the tea out of to a boil then turn the heat off. Then add the broken up cakes and steep (leave in the hot water) for around 10-15 min stirring occasionally. Strain and mix with whatever flavors you prefer. I will be using Tang Tangerine Strawberry mix cuz that stuff is f in deliciouso to finish it off. I'll let you know how it goes! This way all the goodness should be extracted with minimal breakdown.
Read this it's a very interesting method that is tried and true by yours truly. The tequila blue juice is also a fan favorite.
The question I pose to you all is why would this not work with a dried and crushed spent cake . . .

I drank the tea two and half hours ago. I feel funny.
I took a rice/vermiculite cake and broke it into a shitton of pieces. Added a few cups of water and let boil for about 20 minutes, when i saw the mycelium all cooked off and the water resembled a tea i strained it, then ran it through a tea-screen metal thinger I have for valerian root and such...
I ate the few little mushrooms on the cake, really small poppers...i regret even making the tea.
i didn't trip.
<upset. <Wasn't even an exhausted cake..still had 1-2 flushes left.
i will admit i went for a walk in the woods along a river and i feel very good. I feel good right now, but I am most def. tripping.
I guess the way I organize it in my head is that I am not on shrooms, i am on mycelium and the shrooms are what make things go boom...mycelium just makes you feel weird as fuck.
everything tickles and like feels funny, things look funny, people talk funny and about really random things.. (walked into the living room and my uncle and my mom and her boyfriend were talking about how the van my aunt and uncle bought my grandma isn't right for her).....LOL i just walked away like "ok then.."
what did I do wrong? Did i like over-cook the mycelium? Not enough cake? it was very colonized (like 90% of the inside), can you over-cook mycelium? did I cook the goodies out of it?
if anyone knows, tell me please...
well i bet I did it wrong, or something.
I'm gonna go be weird now.
