Although the trip you had may not have been very pleasent, your revelation towards the end, while laying with your girlfriend in bed, seems to be a powerful one.  If you consider the result of your trip and the fact that the trip, although unpleasant, made you examine yourself and your insecurities, maybe the trip wasn't so bad at all, simply unpleasant.

Frankly, my friend, that does not sound like much of a bad trip at all, just an unpleasant one.
