A Colour Atlas of Poisonous Fungi
by Andreas Bresinsky and Helmut Besl, Translated by N. G. Bisset
1990-02-01
A Colour Atlas of Poisonous Fungi Used Price: $78.13 This important timely publication is a photographic guide which facilitates recognition of poisonous fungi and treatment methods. The authors of this full color atlas maintain that the best protection against poisoning by fungi is a detailed knowledge of the fungi themselves. The recent surge of interest in collecting fungi makes this thorough and beautiful illustrated synthesis of current knowledge of their dangers especially timely. It includes information on the culinary preparation of fungi and how to deal with cases of poisoning. It presents in detail fungal taxonomy, chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, and medicine. The information assists readers in understanding the toxic substances present in each case, the degree of toxicity of each fungus and likely effects on the victim. This informative volume is important for accident and emergency doctors and nurses, general practitioners and physicians, pharmacologists, pharmacists, toxicologists, poison control center personnel and biologists.

Evolutionary Biology of the Fungi
by Alan D. M. Rayner, Clive M. Brasier and David Moore
1987-10-22
Evolutionary Biology of the Fungi List Price: $99.95
Used Price: $237.68
The fungi represent superb tools for the study of evolution ‘in action’. This book is the first to bring together, in one volume, coverage of the rapidly growing consensus of knowledge and ideas concerning evolutionary biology of the fungi in the widest sense. It draws, not only upon the impetus given to the field by modern molecular approaches, but on the wider technical and philosophical issues raised in the search for evolutionary pattern in fungal life styles, fungal populations, and at the phylogenetic level.
This exciting and too long neglected field is one which will interest not only mycologists and evolutionary biologists but also those involved in the control, manipulation and commercial exploitation of fungi.

Developmental Biology of Higher Fungi
by David Moore, Lorna Casselton, David Wood and Juliet Frankland
1985-01-01
Developmental Biology of Higher Fungi List Price: $110.00
This book describes current research on the ecological, structural, physiological, genetic and molecular factors that control morphogenesis in the higher fungi. The topics range from the relation between organism and substrate to problems associated with the production of mushrooms in commercial conditions, and include accounts of research on biochemical, molecular and structural aspects of mushroom fruit body development. Thus both pure and applied studies of the biology of basidiomycetes are included in this volume, which provides a timely synthesis of the whole area, by authors of the highest calibre.

The genus Psilocybe : a systematic revision of the known species including the history, distribution, and chemistry of the hallucinogenic species
by Gaston Guzman
1983-01-01
The genus Psilocybe : a systematic revision of the known species including the history, distribution, and chemistry of the hallucinogenic species The genus Psilocybe (Fr.) Quelét consists of over 173 species of mushrooms. These mushrooms are known to occur throughout the world. Psilocybe mushrooms have been found in Papua New Guinea. Five new species of Psilocybe have been collected from Papua New Guinea. Data on the distribution, habitat, description and taxonomic relationships of these five species is presented. There is little data on the chemistry and activity of these mushrooms. Based on taxonomic relationships with other Psilocybe species, the possible chemistry and activity of these mushrooms is the subject of conjecture in this short communication.

Psilocybe Mushrooms and Their Allies
by Paul Stamets
1982-09-01
Psilocybe Mushrooms and Their Allies List Price: $12.95
Used Price: $48.22
This book is far and away the best guide to the psilocybin-containing mushrooms and their relatives. It provides detailed and accurate information about the dark spored agarics, a group of gilled mushrooms difficult to identify and classify. Mycologists and mushroom fanciers, as well as those interested in teh psychoactive fungi, will all find this work useful. Its taxonomic keys and excellent color photographs are valuable additions to the literature on mushrooms. I give Psilocybe Mushrooms and Their Allies the highest recommendation. -- Andrew T. Weil, M.D., Author, The Natural Mind.

Maria Sabina : Her Life and Chants (New Wilderness Poetics ; V. 1)
by Alvaro Estrada
1981-06-01
Maria Sabina : Her Life and Chants (New Wilderness Poetics ; V. 1) List Price: $8.95
Used Price: $29.49
This is the oral autobiography of the great Mazatec Indian shaman, accompanied by a full translation of two chanting/curing sessions. "With words we live and grow," she chants as part of her revelation of the dimension of a language-centered/vision expressed poetry, whose roots go back into pre-Conquest Mexico and whose voices reach her through the sacred psilocybin mushroom.

The wondrous mushroom : mycolatry in Mesoamerica
by R. Gordon Wasson
1980-01-01
The wondrous mushroom : mycolatry in Mesoamerica The book opens with a description of the author's all-night vigil at a shamanic mushroom ceremony --the velada-- in Huautla, Mexico. Against this awe-inspiring setting, you embark on a revolutionary investigation and analysis of the meaning and use of the divine hallucinogenic mushroom, Psilocybe mexicana, and its relevance to the cultures and peoples of Mesoamerica from pre-Columbian times to the present. Astonishing photographs and drawings accompany Wasson's deep and sensitive penetration into the living and past cultures of Southern Mexico, and the role of the divine plant in the natives' religion, where the Indian happily weds it to Christianity.
