Other names: aka Psilocybe mexicana var. longispora
Cap: Measuring 1.5-2.5 centimeters in diameter. At first caramel brown, quickly fading to milk white to yellowish in color. Appearance starts obtuse to subumbonate, expands to broadly conical; edge of cap may become cracked or wavy.
Stem: Measuring 0.2-0.5 centimeters in diameter. Length 3.0-6.0 centimeters. Color whitish, often with blue stains. Apperance fibrous, veil remnants are sometimes visible.
Gills: closely spaced, broad. Color deep purple brown, pallid/whitish edges.
spores: 11-14 x 5-8 x 5-8 micrometers. shape elongated ellipsoid, with germ pore.
Habitat: Found around Paso de Cortes and Puebla, Mexico, between 3300 and 3700 m elevation. Also known from several of the other very tall mountains in central Mexico including Nevado de Toluca. Found in small clusters in open pine woods (Pinus hartwegii), fruits in September and October.
Additonal Notes: P. aztecorum is related to P. baeocystis.
